Apple Allegedly In Talks To Acquire Perplexity AI

Apple is reportedly eyeing a blockbuster acquisition of Perplexity AI, a $14 billion startup with a powerful AI-driven search engine, as a way to turbocharge its AI ambitions and possibly challenge Google’s search dominance, according to Bloomberg.

Insiders say Apple’s M&A chief, Adrian Perica, and services head, Eddy Cue, are leading early talks. However, Perplexity itself told Bloomberg they’re unaware of any merger discussions, and no formal offer has been made, leaving the door open to a partnership instead.

This move could be Apple’s biggest ever, topping its $3 billion Beats deal from 2014, and comes as Apple grapples with delays in AI projects like Siri upgrades and pressure from antitrust scrutiny over its Google search deal.

The buzz around this potential deal has been simmering, with X posts from early June 2025 hinting at Apple integrating Perplexity’s tech into iPhones, though no hard evidence confirms those claims, and earlier April 2024 rumors of a deal also lack substantiation.

Adding to the mix, recent reports suggest Samsung is also circling Perplexity, which could muddy the waters. If Apple pulls this off, it could transform Siri or power a new search tool, but for now, it’s just talk—no deal is sealed.
