Claude Code Adds VS Code Extension and Checkpoints

Claude Code is evolving with powerful new features designed to make AI-assisted development more autonomous and reliable.

The update introduces a native VS Code extension in beta, an upgraded terminal interface, and checkpoints that let developers rewind code states instantly.

Powered by Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Code now handles longer, more complex tasks directly in your IDE and terminal.

The VS Code extension provides a richer interface with inline diffs, while the refreshed terminal includes improved visibility and searchable prompt history.

Checkpoints give developers peace of mind when delegating large-scale edits, allowing them to roll back to earlier code versions at any time.

Combined with subagents, hooks, and background tasks, Claude Code is becoming more capable of executing ambitious workflows with confidence.

These updates, along with the new Claude Agent SDK for custom agent development, are available now to all users.
