Google Exec Allegedly Plans to Merge Android and ChromeOS

According to Engadget, Sameer Samat, Google’s Android ecosystem leader, announced on July 14, 2025, that the company will merge Android and ChromeOS into a single operating system.

Speaking to reporters, he emphasized the goal of linking devices more effectively, drawing inspiration from rival ecosystems.

The plan leverages ChromeOS’s recent adoption of Android’s core technology and its support for Android apps on laptops.

The merger targets better performance across phones, tablets, and computers, with no specific timeline released.

Samat tied the move to the upcoming Android XR device launch, hinting at broader integration soon. This reflects Google’s push to strengthen its market position.
