Microsoft Cuts About 9,000 Jobs in Latest Layoff Round

Microsoft just announced it’s letting go of about 9,000 employees, which is roughly 4% of its global team, as it tightens its belt to focus on big AI investments.

These cuts, hitting different teams and regions, are all about streamlining operations and flattening management to keep the company nimble.

This is Microsoft’s biggest layoff since slashing 10,000 jobs in 2023, coming on the heels of 6,000 cuts in May 2025, and it’s part of a wider tech industry trend where companies are trimming staff to pour more into AI.

They’re also working on an Enterprise-level shake-up, tweaking the org chart to stay sharp in a fast-moving market.
