NSF, Nvidia, and Allen AI: A Partnership To Advance Science

Intelligent Research Lab with Robots and Scientists, Advancing Technology in AI and Automation AIG62

The U.S. National Science Foundation has partnered with NVIDIA to support the Allen Institute for AI in a new public-private initiative.

This collaboration is a key part of the White House AI Action Plan, to advance scientific discovery and ensure U.S. leadership in AI-powered research.

The partnership involves a total of $152 million in funding, with the NSF contributing $75 million and NVIDIA adding $77 million, to support the Open Multimodal AI Infrastructure to Accelerate Science project.

This project aims to build a national, fully open AI ecosystem by developing and releasing advanced, open-source AI models specifically designed for the scientific community.

The open-source nature of the OMAI project is a central focus, as it aims to provide a high degree of transparency and reproducibility for researchers.

The models created will be trained on scientific literature, allowing researchers to process and analyze data more efficiently, generate code, and connect new insights to past discoveries.

NVIDIA will power this effort with its state-of-the-art HGX B300 systems and the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform.

The models and software will be made available to researchers at low or zero cost, furthering the goal of strengthening American competitiveness in AI and other critical technologies.
