OpenAI Launches People-First AI Fund For U.S. Nonprofits

OpenAI has announced that applications are now open for the People-First AI Fund, a $50 million initiative created to support U.S.-based nonprofits using AI to drive positive social impact.

The fund reflects OpenAI’s commitment to ensuring the benefits of artificial intelligence reach communities across the country.

Eligible 501(c)(3) organizations with annual budgets between $500,000 and $10 million can apply by October 8, 2025, with unrestricted grants to be distributed by year’s end.

Applicants do not need to be current AI users, making the fund accessible to organizations at any adoption stage.

The program will back nonprofits in three key areas.

First its AI literacy and public understanding, empowering communities through education and engagement.

Secondly, community innovation, funding initiatives that use AI to improve health, civic life, and essential services

Lastly economic opportunity, supporting programs that expand access to meaningful work and prepare people for future jobs.

OpenAI is partnering with local leaders, educators, and organizations like the American Federation of Teachers and AARP’s Older Adults Technology Services to ensure the fund is informed by those closest to community needs.
