Zuckerberg Reaches Settlement in $8B Facebook Privacy Case

Mark Zuckerberg and several top Meta executives have reached a settlement in a massive shareholder lawsuit that accused them of failing to prevent repeated privacy violations on Facebook.
The case, which sought over $8 billion in damages, was set to go to trial this week, but was unexpectedly paused after both sides confirmed a deal had been reached.
The lawsuit claimed Meta’s leadership knowingly allowed privacy failures that led to scandals like the Cambridge Analytica breach and multi-billion-dollar fines from regulators.
While details of the agreement haven’t been disclosed, the settlement spares Zuckerberg, Sheryl Sandberg, and other board members from testifying in court.
It also ends a high-profile attempt by investors to hold executives personally accountable for Facebook’s data protection failures.
