OpenAI has unveiled plans to improve ChatGPT’s ability to support users in emotional crisis.
It will route sensitive conversations to advanced reasoning models like GPT‑5‑thinking.
ChatGPT will also be introducing parental controls within the next month.
These enhancements are part of a broader 120-day initiative aimed at strengthening safety for vulnerable users.
Parental controls will allow parents to link their account with their teen’s (aged 13+), enforce age-appropriate responses, disable features like memory or chat history, and receive alerts when acute distress is detected.
OpenAI emphasized that many of these improvements will roll out before the end of the year, with additional input from experts in mental health guiding continued development
