Starbucks will deploy an AI-powered automated inventory counting system in over 11,000 company-owned coffeehouses in North America by the end of September 2025.

Using handheld tablets equipped with NomadGo’s proprietary software, baristas can scan shelves to instantly count items and flag low-stock products, making inventory eight times more frequent and accurate than before.

Powered by a blend of computer vision, 3D spatial intelligence, and augmented reality, the system replaces manual tallying with a fast, seamless experience that resolves stock issues in real time.

According to Starbucks CTO Deb Hall Lefevre, this innovation reduces time spent in stockrooms, allowing partners to focus more on crafting beverages and engaging with customers.

The new technology also strengthens supply chain operations by improving frequency, visibility, and precision of inventory tracking, helping prevent shortages of popular add-ons like oat milk, cold foam, and caramel drizzle.
