OpenAI Introduces Apps and SDK For ChatGPT Developers

OpenAI has ushered in a new generation of apps with ChatGPT, where users can interact directly with third-party tools through conversation.

Developers can now create dynamic, conversational apps that are responsive to natural language and can do things like create maps, playlists, or design interfaces—all in a single chat.

The new Apps SDK, powered by the open Model Context Protocol (MCP), enables developers to build both the UI and the logic of their apps and hook them directly into their own backends.

Launch partners include Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify, and Zillow, with additional partners expected to join later this year.

Applications are being rolled out to all users of ChatGPT globally, beyond the EU, on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans. OpenAI also plans to expand access, monetization, and developer submissions later in the coming months.
