Coca-Cola is facing intense criticism following the release of its 2025 Christmas ad, which was entirely created using generative AI tools.
Social media critics have slammed the brand for replacing human creatives, while others have mocked the ad’s visual quality and animation style.
The company ran the ad for the second consecutive year, despite some controversy surrounding last year’s campaign.

The company says they used even fewer people to make it — “We need to keep moving forward and pushing the envelope… The genie is out of the bottle, and you’re not going to put it back in” pic.twitter.com/g1dogxS8Tq
Countering criticism, the head of Coca-Cola’s generative AI department claimed consumer engagement was strong in 2024 and said this year’s craftsmanship has improved significantly.
He reiterated the concerns of artists and the industry, while emphasizing that the company would continue to push the boundaries in AI-driven marketing.
The debate highlights the recurring tension with AI’s increasing role in creative industries, a concern also echoed during last year’s labor dispute in Hollywood 2023.
