Xpeng Launches Robotaxis and Humanoid Robots With Custom AI Chips

Chinese EV maker Xpeng announced plans to begin testing robotaxis in Guangzhou and other cities next year, revealing three autonomous models powered by the company’s self-developed “Turing” AI chips.

With a combined 3,000 TOPS of computing power, Xpeng claims the system offers the world’s highest in-car processing capability for autonomous driving.

The company also introduced its second-generation humanoid robot, with mass production targeted for the end of 2026, aimed at roles such as tour guides, sales assistants, and office building support.

Xpeng’s move mirrors Tesla’s push beyond electric vehicles as both companies invest in robotics and driverless transportation.

Backed by partnerships with Alibaba’s AutoNavi, Xpeng plans to integrate robotaxis into existing ride-hailing platforms while developing fully autonomous personal cars.

Executives say rapid advances in AI and computing have accelerated timelines faster than expected, putting the company near a major inflection point for commercialization.

Xpeng also highlighted its flying car efforts and suggested it began developing some technologies earlier than Tesla, though with less public promotion.
