Anthropic Launches Labs To Incubate Claude Products

Anthropic introduced a new product group called Labs, creating a dedicated team to develop experimental products built on its Claude AI models.

The company said Labs would focus on testing early-stage ideas and turning successful ones into production-ready offerings.

Mike Krieger, the co-founder of Instagram and Anthropic’s chief product officer, joined the Labs team to work alongside Ben Mann.

Anthropic also said Ami Vora, who joined the company in late 2025, would lead its Product organization, working with chief technology officer Rahul Patil to scale Claude-based products.

The company pointed to recent products that began as experiments and later reached large adoption, including Claude Code, the Model Context Protocol, and several agent-based tools such as Skills and Cowork.

Anthropic said this development model had allowed it to move new AI capabilities into the market quickly.

Labs was designed to formalize that approach by separating early experimentation from the teams responsible for running products used by enterprises and individual customers, according to Anthropic.

Why This Matters Today

If you use Claude or build on it, Labs changes how new features reach you.

Anthropic said products would be tested with early users inside Labs before being promoted into fully supported services.

The move also showed how the company was reorganizing to keep pace with rapid AI model upgrades.

Anthropic said it needed separate teams for experimental work and for scaling reliable products, as demand from businesses and consumers continued to grow.

By bringing in a senior product leader from outside the AI industry, Anthropic signaled that product design and user experience were becoming as central as model development in how Claude would evolve.

Our Key Takeaways:

  • Anthropic created Labs on January 13 to incubate and test new products built on Claude’s AI models.

  • The group was led by Mike Krieger alongside Ben Mann, with a separate product team formed to scale mature offerings.

  • The company said Labs would determine which experimental tools moved into full production for enterprise and consumer users.
