Amazon announced a major investment of up to 50 billion dollars to strengthen AI and high-performance computing infrastructure for U.S. government agencies.
Starting in 2026, AWS will add nearly 1.3 gigawatts of compute capacity across AWS Top Secret, AWS Secret, and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions.
These new data centers will include advanced compute, networking, and accelerated AI hardware.
Federal customers will gain expanded access to services such as Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Nova, Anthropic Claude, leading open weights models, AWS Trainium chips, and NVIDIA AI infrastructure.
The goal is to help agencies build custom AI systems, process massive datasets, and improve productivity across critical missions.
This investment will transform how federal agencies conduct modeling, simulation, discovery, and decision-making.
Workloads that used to take weeks can be completed in hours by pairing AI with high fidelity modeling and real-time feedback loops.
Research teams will be able to process decades of global security data, analyze satellite imagery at scale, and automate threat detection and response.
Complex datasets related to supply chains, energy, environment, and infrastructure can be merged into unified models that support faster and more accurate planning.
The effort aligns with the Administration’s AI Action Plan and strengthens America’s position in scientific research, national security, cybersecurity, healthcare research, and energy innovation.
AWS has supported government innovation for over a decade and currently collaborates with more than 11,000 agencies.
This investment continues that momentum by giving federal teams secure, scalable, and purpose-built AI infrastructure designed for the next era of discovery.
