Amazon is highlighting its community-focused initiatives at HQ2 in Arlington, Virginia, with a focus on service, economic support, and employee development.
As part of its ongoing commitment to the region, the company continues to invest in programs that create opportunities and strengthen local connections.
One of the most recent examples is Cloud Connect, an event hosted on November 14 by Amazon’s Black Employee Network in partnership with University Talent Acquisition and the Field North America Tech Customer Service teams.
The event brought more than 120 university students to HQ2 to explore careers in technology and gain hands-on learning experiences.
Students attending Cloud Connect represented over 10 colleges and universities, including Howard University, the University of Maryland, Virginia Tech, George Mason University, Morgan State, and Carnegie Mellon.
Participants came from more than 15 fields of study, such as computer science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and business.
Many student organizations were also involved, including NSBE, SWE, ColorStack, and SHPE.
The day kicked off with a panel featuring senior Amazon leaders who shared their career journeys and insights into the technology powering the company.
Students then participated in career-focused discussions, a recruiting workshop, and a PartyRock generative AI session where teams built applications and pitched their ideas in a Shark Tank-style showcase.
To extend the impact beyond the event, each student was paired with an Amazon mentor who will support them as they navigate school, internships, and early-career decisions.
More than 65 Amazon employees volunteered, helping create an environment that encouraged meaningful connection and collaboration.
Cloud Connect serves as an example of Amazon’s broader mission at HQ2: supporting the next generation of tech talent, strengthening community ties, and investing in long-term opportunity for the region.
