Amazon Launches AI Agent To Speed Up Cloud Outage Recovery

Amazon Web Services has unveiled a new AI tool called DevOps Agent aimed at reducing the downtime caused by cloud infrastructure failures.

The software utilizes artificial intelligence to analyze data from third-party monitoring services, such as Datadog and Dynatrace, to predict the root cause of technical issues.

Instead of waiting for on-call engineers to investigate an outage manually, the agent automatically generates an incident report with potential causes and suggested fixes before a human even logs in.

The tool is designed to assist site reliability engineers responsible for maintaining online services’ smooth operation.

By automating the initial investigation phase, the DevOps Agent can significantly reduce recovery times.

For example, during testing with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, the agent identified the source of a problem in under 15 minutes, a task that Amazon claims would have taken a veteran engineer hours to solve.

This release is part of a broader push by cloud providers to integrate generative AI into developer workflows.

Key Takeaways:

  • DevOps Agent automates the investigation of cloud outages for faster recovery.

  • The tool integrates with third-party monitoring services, such as Datadog.

  • Early tests show it can identify root causes in minutes rather than hours.
