Amazon announced the rollout of “Alexa+ Greetings” on Thursday, a new feature that enables Ring doorbells to autonomously screen visitors using conversational AI.
The system integrates Ring’s visual processing technology with Alexa’s language models, allowing the device to identify who is at the door based on visual cues, such as uniforms or packages, and engage them in natural conversation.
The feature is currently available to Alexa+ Early Access customers in the United States and Canada.
The technology functions by analyzing live video to determine the context of a visit before determining the appropriate response.
For example, the system can distinguish between a delivery driver and a solicitor, executing specific user-defined instructions for each scenario.
Users can configure the AI to direct delivery personnel to a side gate or politely dismiss door-to-door salespeople, with the assistant capable of handling follow-up questions from visitors regarding signatures or access.
To utilize the feature, customers require specific hardware, including the third-generation Ring Wired Doorbell Pro or second-generation Wired Doorbell Plus.
Additionally, the functionality is gated behind the Ring Premium Plan and requires the “Video Descriptions” setting to be enabled.
Amazon framed the update as a shift from simple motion alerts to active household management, positioning the AI as a 24/7 front-door administrator.

- Amazon released Alexa+ Greetings today, enabling compatible Ring doorbells to autonomously answer and converse with visitors.
