Amazon Makes Alexa+ Available Nationwide, Free For Prime

Amazon made Alexa+ generally available across the United States on February 4, 2026, expanding access to its next-generation AI assistant.

The company said Alexa+ was now included at no additional cost for Prime members and available to all U.S. customers through Alexa-enabled devices, the Alexa app, and Alexa.com.

For customers without Prime, Amazon introduced a new free tier that allowed limited access to the Alexa+ chat experience via web and mobile.

A standalone subscription option was also offered at $19.99 per month, providing unlimited access across devices and household members.

Alexa+ was built on a new architecture using large language models from Amazon Nova and Anthropic. Amazon said the assistant supported deeper, multi-turn conversations and retained context over time.

During early access, customers used Alexa+ for tasks such as scheduling, shopping, meal planning, booking reservations, and managing smart home routines.

Amazon said Alexa+ usage during early access more than doubled compared with the previous version of Alexa, reflecting increased engagement across voice, mobile, and web interfaces.

Why This Matters Today

You are seeing large consumer platforms push advanced AI assistants into everyday use. By bundling Alexa+ with Prime, Amazon lowered the barrier to adoption and positioned AI assistance as a default household utility rather than a premium add-on.

The rollout also signaled intensifying competition among consumer AI assistants.

Making Alexa+ available across voice, mobile, and web allowed Amazon to meet users wherever they interacted, rather than limiting AI to smart speakers. The introduction of a free tier gave non-Prime users a way to test the experience while reserving full capabilities for subscribers.

Alexa+’s agentic features moved beyond question answering into task execution.

Ordering food, booking services, coordinating calendars, and managing smart homes reflected a shift toward assistants acting on behalf of users rather than simply responding to commands.

For Amazon, deeper engagement with Alexa+ strengthened the value of the Prime ecosystem.

The assistant was designed to integrate with Prime Video, Amazon Music, shopping, and other services, reinforcing customer retention.

As AI assistants become more capable, bundling them with existing memberships may reshape how consumers evaluate subscription value.
