Apple is expanding Apple Intelligence with the release of its Foundation Models framework, giving developers direct access to the on-device large language model that powers Apple’s AI.
Available with iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26, the framework allows apps to run AI features entirely offline, protecting user privacy while eliminating inference costs.
Developers are already adopting the technology to create intelligent new experiences across health, fitness, education, creativity, and productivity apps.
SmartGym uses the framework to transform natural language workout descriptions into structured routines and generate adaptive coaching.
Stoic delivers hyperpersonal journaling prompts and contextual reflections, while CellWalk provides conversational explanations of scientific terms for students.
Apps like VLLO, Stuff, and Signeasy are enhancing video editing, task organization, and document management with real-time AI features, all running natively on Apple devices.
Integrated with Swift, the framework simplifies development by supporting guided generation and tool integration, providing developers with new ways to build powerful, private, and seamless intelligence features into everyday apps.
