Amazon Web Services and OpenAI announced a significant multi-year agreement that will immediately allow OpenAI to run its core AI workloads on AWS’s high-performance cloud infrastructure.
The $38 billion commitment is expected to expand over the next seven years, giving OpenAI access to clusters featuring hundreds of thousands of state-of-the-art NVIDIA GPUs and the ability to scale to tens of millions of CPUs.
AWS will provide OpenAI with Amazon EC2 UltraServers and tightly networked GPU clusters optimized for low-latency distributed processing, allowing deployments ranging from ChatGPT inference to next-generation model training.
Demand has surged for compute power, with frontier models pushing toward greater intelligence, and OpenAI is leaning on AWS’s experience in running secure, reliable, large-scale infrastructure.
All capacity is expected to be deployed by the end of 2026, with expansion potential into 2027 and beyond.
This deal builds upon already-announced collaboration through Amazon Bedrock, where OpenAI’s open-weight models are already available to thousands of enterprise customers.
With AWS powering the backend, this positions both companies to accelerate global AI innovation and deliver more capable agentic systems to millions of users.
