AWS Unveils Graviton5 Chip For High-Performance Cloud Computing

Amazon Web Services has introduced its latest custom processor, the Graviton5, designed to deliver substantial improvements in both performance and energy efficiency for cloud computing.

The new chip features 192 cores, the highest density available in Amazon EC2, and boasts a 5x larger cache compared to its predecessor.

These enhancements enable faster data processing and reduced latency, making them ideal for demanding workloads such as real-time gaming, large-scale databases, and AI applications.

The Graviton5 instances are built on the AWS Nitro System, which ensures high security and isolation for workloads.

This architecture offloads virtualization functions to dedicated hardware, allowing the main processor to focus entirely on computing tasks.

Major companies, such as Adobe, Epic Games, and Pinterest, are already leveraging Graviton-based infrastructure to optimize their operations, citing notable gains in speed and cost efficiency.

The new M9g instances powered by Graviton5 are now available in preview, with additional compute-optimized variants planned for release in 2026.

Key Takeaways:

  • Graviton5 offers up to 25 percent better performance than the previous generation.

  • The chip features 192 cores and improved memory speed for complex workloads.

  • M9g instances are available now, with more variants coming in 2026.
