DOGE Rolled Out An AI Tool To Cut 50% Of Federal Regulations

According to The Washington Post, the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency has rolled out the DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool, an AI system built to review approximately 200,000 federal regulations and identify up to 100,000 rules for elimination by January 2026, nearly 50% of the federal regulatory code.
Internal documents, including a PowerPoint dated July 1, outline massive estimated savings in compliance costs and increased external investment due to these deregulation efforts.
Early tests of the AI tool have already processed over 1,000 regulatory sections at the Department of Housing and Urban Development in under two weeks, and handled 100% of deregulation processing at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
While the tool is intended to accelerate deregulation, some HUD employees flagged errors where AI misinterpreted statutory language, raising concerns over accuracy and legality.
This initiative sits at the intersection of AI policy and federal reform, illustrating how emerging technologies are reshaping government processes.
DOGE leaders envision the tool dramatically reducing the federal budget and unlocking trillions in economic value, but legal and operational challenges may limit its broader rollout.
