Google Maps Adds Gemini AI To Boost Navigation and Hands-Free Assistance

Google is rolling out a significant upgrade to Google Maps powered by Gemini, introducing a hands-free, conversational driving experience that makes navigation faster and more helpful.

With voice-driven prompts, you can search for stops along the route, check EV chargers, share ETAs, ask about parking, and even add calendar events- all without touching your phone.

By speaking, drivers can report accidents, flooding, or slowdowns on the road, keeping real-world data fresh and accurate for all those using the roads.

Additionally, directions are enhanced with real-world landmarks using Google’s database of over 250 million places and Street View imagery to provide clearer guidance, such as “turn right after Thai Siam Restaurant.”

New proactive traffic alerts will notify users in advance when there are closures or congestion.

Additionally, Lens, built with Gemini, will let people ask questions about restaurants, shops, and landmarks by pointing their camera at the world around them.

These updates begin rolling out this month across Android and iOS, making trips smoother, smarter, and more interactive.
