Google TV Gets New Gemini-Powered Features Previewed

Google previewed new Gemini capabilities for Google TV at CES 2026, introducing AI-driven features focused on search, personalization and device control.

The company said the updates are designed to make TVs more interactive and easier to use across supported brands.

Gemini on Google TV will present answers in a visually rich format, combining images, videos and live sports information.

For broader or complex topics, new “deep dives” provide narrated, interactive overviews tailored for family viewing.

Users will also be able to search their Google Photos library on TV using natural language.

Gemini can identify people or specific moments and then apply photo effects through Photos Remix or automatically generate immersive slideshow presentations.

Google said Gemini will integrate with media creation tools such as Nano Banana and Veo, allowing users to produce AI-generated images and videos directly on the TV.

In addition, Gemini will handle common device adjustments through conversational commands, such as “the screen is too dim” or “the dialogue is hard to hear,” without requiring navigation of on-screen menus.

Why This Matters Today

The update demonstrates how large language models are being integrated directly into consumer television interfaces, expanding beyond content recommendations to encompass full conversational control and content creation.

TVs are becoming broader home computing surfaces rather than passive displays.

By integrating photo search, AI image tools and natural-language settings, Google is positioning Gemini as the central assistant layer across Google TV devices.

The company also noted that projector support is planned, expanding Gemini interactions beyond traditional televisions.
