Instagram has launched its new “Rings” award, a program that will gift 25 creators a custom-made gold ring and an adjacent digital badge on their profiles.
The recipients will be selected by a panel that includes Instagram head Adam Mosseri, director Spike Lee, designer Marc Jacobs, and YouTuber Marques Brownlee.
Rather than offering cash rewards, the initiative will put the spotlight on creators who think differently and display extraordinary creativity.
They will also have new customizations for their profiles, including the ability to change backdrop colors and modify the “like” button.
The payout happens when creator rewards on social media are tightening.
Meta had previously paused its Reels Play bonus program in 2023, and brand partnerships for influencers have dropped sharply in the past year.
Rivals like YouTube and TikTok still have access to straight revenue-sharing, but Instagram’s new prize takes a symbolic path, opting for prestige and fame instead of money.
