Jack Dorsey’s Cool New Bitchat App Takes Shape

Jack Dorsey, Twitter co-founder, announced on X on July 6, 2025, that he is building Bitchat, a Bluetooth messaging app using mesh networks and encryption.
The app, available for testing via TestFlight and GitHub, supports offline, peer-to-peer communication and reflects his focus on decentralized tech, including past support for Bitcoin, Bluesky, and Signal.
Bitchat’s end-to-end encryption and store-and-forward features could suit regions with internet disruptions, similar to Bridgefy’s use in the 2019 Hong Kong protests.
A whitepaper outlines its protocol, with Dorsey planning further development.
