NVIDIA and Oracle Building DOE’s Largest AI Supercomputer

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) also partnered with NVIDIA and Oracle to create the country’s largest-ever AI supercomputer at Argonne National Laboratory, comprising 100,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs in the Solstice system and an additional 10,000 GPUs in the Equinox system.

The combined system is expected to deliver approximately 2,200 exaflops of compute power and is designed to accelerate scientific advancement in energy, security, and materials science applications.

The supercomputers will use NVIDIA’s Megatron-Core library and TensorRT software stack to train and deploy agent-based AI models.

The initiative is built on a new public-private collaboration framework, with Oracle providing cloud and services enablement on its OCI platform.

Through the combination of scale, innovation, and science, the initiative aims to bolster U.S. leadership in AI infrastructure and enable researchers to address challenging problems at an unmatched pace and efficiency.
