OpenAI is teaming up with Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) to develop and prepare U.S.-based manufacturing for the next wave of AI hardware.
The partnership gives Foxconn visibility into emerging industry hardware needs while giving OpenAI early access to evaluate new systems.
Although no purchase commitments are included, the collaboration provides a pathway for scalable, U.S.-built infrastructure.
Together, the companies will design multiple generations of AI data center hardware in parallel, enabling OpenAI to keep pace with rapidly evolving model requirements.
The initiative also aims to simplify and strengthen the U.S. AI supply chain by expanding domestic sourcing, improving rack architecture, and increasing local testing and assembly.
Foxconn will manufacture essential components, including networking, cooling, cabling, and power systems, within the U.S., supporting the rapid build-out of advanced computing centers.
Leaders from both companies emphasized that building AI infrastructure in America is a strategic opportunity. Foxconn highlighted its role as the world’s largest manufacturer of AI data servers.
At the same time, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called the effort a “generational opportunity to reindustrialize America,” ensuring the foundations of AI innovation are developed on U.S. soil.
