Perplexity Launches Model Council Multi-Model Feature

Perplexity launched Model Council, a new research feature designed to help users compare and synthesize responses from multiple AI models at once.

The company announced the release on February 4, 2026, positioning it as a tool for users who need higher confidence and a broader perspective in AI-generated answers.

Model Council allows a single query to run simultaneously across three different models available on Perplexity, such as Claude Opus 4.5, GPT-5.2, and Gemini 3.0.

A separate synthesizer model then reviews the outputs, resolves conflicts where possible, and produces a unified response that shows where models agree and where they diverge.

Perplexity said the feature was designed to reduce the need for manual cross-checking across different models, particularly given the wide performance variation by task type.

Model Council is available immediately to Perplexity Max subscribers on the web, with mobile support planned for a later release.

Why This Matters Today

You are seeing AI model selection become a problem in itself.

Different models excel at various tasks, and relying on a single system can introduce blind spots, bias, or overconfidence, especially in research and decision-making.

Model Council formalized a workflow many advanced users already follow: querying multiple models to compare results.

By automating that process, Perplexity reduced friction while making disagreement visible rather than hiding it behind a single answer. That transparency matters when users act on AI outputs in areas like investing, strategy, or complex analysis.

The feature also reinforced Perplexity’s positioning as a model-agnostic interface rather than a single-model assistant.

As frontier models become more specialized, tools for coordinating and evaluating them may become as important as the models themselves.

For enterprises and power users, Model Council signaled a shift toward AI-assisted verification rather than AI as a single source of truth.

Showing consensus and conflict side by side helps users decide when to trust an answer and when to investigate further, potentially reducing overreliance on any one model.
