Qantas Hit by Data Breach Affecting Millions of Passengers

Qantas, Australia’s biggest airline, just shared some tough news: a cyberattack on a third-party platform used by one of its contact centers exposed the personal details of up to 6 million customers.

The breach, caught on June 30, 2025, leaked names, emails, phone numbers, birth dates, and frequent flyer numbers, but thankfully, no financial info or passwords were compromised, and the system’s now secure.

The attack, possibly tied to the Scattered Spider hacking group, has Qantas reaching out to affected customers with support through a hotline and a dedicated website.

CEO Vanessa Hudson issued a heartfelt apology, vowing to rebuild trust while the airline teams up with the Australian Federal Police and cybersecurity pros to investigate the breach.

The breach adds to Australia’s spike in data incidents in 2024.
