Robinhood Markets has announced its entry into the Southeast Asian market with the acquisition of Indonesian brokerage Buana Capital Sekuritas and licensed crypto trader Pedagang Aset Kripto.
This strategic move allows the U.S. trading platform to tap into Indonesia’s massive base of over 19 million capital market investors and 17 million cryptocurrency traders.
The deal provides Robinhood with immediate regulatory compliance and a foothold in one of the region’s most active digital asset hubs.
The acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2026, though financial terms have not been disclosed. Pieter Tanuri, the majority owner of both acquired firms, will remain as a strategic adviser to help navigate the local market.
This expansion signals a new phase of growth for Robinhood, which has seen its stock surge nearly 268 percent in 2025 as it diversifies beyond U.S. retail trading.
Key Takeaways:
- Robinhood is acquiring two Indonesian firms to enter the Southeast Asian market.
- Indonesia has over 17 million crypto traders and a tech-savvy population.
- The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2026.
