WhatsApp is rolling out a new update to make protecting your chat backups with end-to-end encryption easier than ever. The users will no longer have to memorize passwords or save long encryption keys.
Now, by enabling passkeys, the backup can be locked with your fingerprint, face scan, or even device screen code.
The feature protects the private conversations and key memories stored in the cloud by making it accessible only to the account owner.
Passkey encryption builds upon WhatsApp’s existing set of security features, launched more than four years ago, and represents the ongoing push by the platform for features focused on privacy.
Using the biometrics already built into a user’s device, WhatsApp makes it easier to keep backups both safe and accessible without adding extra friction. Once enabled, users can restore chats securely on a new device with just a tap.
The update is being rolled out over the coming weeks and months.
Users will have to activate this update when it is made available; to do so, open WhatsApp settings, select Chats, tap Chat backup, and choose End-to-end encrypted backup to review options.
As messaging privacy becomes increasingly important, WhatsApp is releasing an upgrade that reinforces its position as one of the most security-minded communication apps available.
