OpenAI announced the launch of Education for Countries, a new initiative designed to help governments modernize education systems and prepare workforces for an AI-driven economy.
The program sits within OpenAI’s broader OpenAI for Countries effort and focuses on scaling practical AI use across schools and universities.
The initiative will work directly with ministries of education, university consortia, and researchers to deploy AI tools for learning, reduce administrative workload, and align education outcomes with future labor market needs.
OpenAI said participating systems will gain access to tools such as ChatGPT Edu, GPT-5.2, study mode, and canvas, adapted to local curricula and priorities.
Education for Countries also includes national-level research partnerships to study how AI affects learning outcomes and teacher productivity.

The first cohort of participating regions includes Estonia, Greece, Italy’s Conference of University Rectors, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United Arab Emirates. OpenAI said additional countries will be announced later in 2026.
