Shameless Selling – How To Overcome The Fear Of Selling Online
When you walk into a grocery store, do you feel upset at the store for selling things to you? Not really, right?
Sure, you might be disappointed about the prices of certain products being too high and constantly be on the lookout for a better deal elsewhere, but it’s fair to say that you don’t feel upset at the store for offering you a large variety of products to purchase in exchange for your hard-earned cash, right?
So, why is it that when it comes to selling digital products to people online, some entrepreneurs feel that people are “upset” at them when they sell them stuff?
Some of our agency’s clients are uncomfortable with adding cross-sells and upsells to their sales funnels and refuse to sell more products to their customers immediately after they complete the initial purchase.
This negatively impacts their campaigns’ performance and scalability (and they know it).
It appears that some entrepreneurs experience a slightly more confident form of sales phobia.
They are able to sell one product effectively (which means they have at least some selling confidence), but deep down, they feel “bad” about making that sale; therefore, they feel uncomfortable selling more products to the same customer repeatedly, especially shortly after the initial sale.
As a result, they hit a glass ceiling and stay at the same level until they shift their mindset.
So, how can you shift your mindset and overcome your fear of selling? (Keep reading.)

Overcoming The Fear Of Selling
If you feel anxious about selling more products to your existing customers, you’re not alone!
If you feel that customers get angry at you when you try to sell them more products shortly after they buy something from you, once again, you are not alone… but you are wrong, and we’ll explain why.
We’re here to help you overcome your sales phobia once and for all using good ol’ rational thinking.
Here are some questions for your consideration:
- If you believe that your product or service is valuable and can add value to someone’s life, why wouldn’t you offer it to your existing customers?
Don’t you appreciate your customers and want them to be the first to access your top-notch products or services? - Why would you not want to bring more value into someone’s life, considering it’s completely optional for them to take your offer?
Why would someone be upset about an optional offer, especially one that you genuinely believe is worth its price? - Are you selling good, in-demand, and valuable products, or is what you offer actually worth being upset about?
Here is a different perspective for you to consider:
Your sales phobia is not only costing you a ton of money but also preventing you from serving your customers as best as you can.
It’s time to unshackle your tamed selling-machine mind and unlock your full potential; what do you say?
It’s time you understood one of the most powerful sales concepts in existence that all the top salespeople, entrepreneurs, and marketers use: shameless selling.
Selling “shamelessly” means selling constantly and without discrimination. When you sell shamelessly, you do not assume that your offer is “not the right fit” for someone – you sell to everyone all the time (unless you only work with a certain type of customer for a very specific reason).
To be able to sell shamelessly and maximize your potential, you must acknowledge and accept this fundamental truth: someone is always selling, and someone is always buying.
In every transaction (and in every interaction), you are either the producer or the consumer.
And guess what?
People expect you to sell them things, and they are willing to pay for your products or services in exchange for the value they receive!
Think of it this way:
- If you sell a course – you actually sell knowledge that helps people achieve desirable outcomes in their lives.
- If you sell software – you actually sell increased productivity and efficiency to save someone time and money.
- If you sell a movie – you actually sell entertainment to make someone feel relaxed or happy.
- Etc.
In other words, you sell what someone wants or needs to buy, and people only buy what they want or need. Better yet, you sell the dream.
So, who are you to cap the amount of money someone is willing to spend on your products or services?
If you believe in the value of what you offer, sell it without hesitation or reservation to anyone willing and able to pay for it!
After all, you are not a thug forcing someone to give you their money at gunpoint; you are an honest entrepreneur who sells top-notch stuff that brings people a lot of value, and it’s up to them to decide if they are willing to buy what you offer.
In other words, it’s not your job to “police the market” or people’s wallets.
Your job is to shamelessly sell as much of your awesome product as possible so that you can grow your business, create financial stability for your family, your team, and their families, achieve your goals, and impact the world.
Pro Tips For Shameless Selling:
- Cross-sell: When people are about to buy your product or service, offer them something additional that complements your main offer.
Imagine you are at the furniture store buying a kitchen table, and the salesperson offers you a deal on the chairs to go with the table.
Or imagine you just purchased an ebook, and you get offered access to a live workshop on the same topic for an additional fee.
That’s cross-selling. - Upsell: You sold your initial offer – congrats! Now, upgrade your customers to a higher-end version of your product or service at a higher price.
You can do this immediately after the initial purchase (on the confirmation page) or later on in your customer’s journey through your marketing funnel.
You can keep upselling your customers as long as you have something to sell and they are willing to pay for it. - Downsell: Downselling has one primary objective: to squeeze out the last penny your customer is willing to spend with you and maximize ROI.
If your customer refuses your upsell or cross-sell, offer them a lower-priced product that they cannot refuse!

Closing Remarks
Our advice to you comes from running hundreds of ad campaigns, managing millions of dollars of ad spend, and generating tens of millions of dollars in revenue for our clients at the Vavoza agency.
Shameless selling is not a brutal sales technique for cold and heartless entrepreneurs – it’s how effective selling is done.
It is how a sales funnel becomes scalable and why some businesses achieve massive success while others constantly fight an uphill battle.
Remember, if you genuinely want to impact your customers, you must first impact your own business and become a force to be reckoned with.
It’s much easier to impact other people on a large scale once you make (and have) more money, which requires shamelessly selling something to someone repeatedly.
