What Is The Difference Between Marketing and Advertising?

Here is the difference between marketing and advertising:

Marketing is increasing demand (or “driving up” demand) for your product, service, or idea, and there are different stages in marketing.

Advertising is one of those key stages.

Advertising is the “traffic generation” part of marketing – you place ads in front of the marketplace and attract people who are likely to buy your offers, bringing them into your “sales funnel.”

However, there are other essential marketing stages, such as lead nurturing, community-building, loyalty-building, and customer retention.

So, advertising is where you get eyeballs on your brand and bring people into your world, so to speak, so that you can continue marketing to them and convert them into buyers (and brand advocates).

If you want a better understanding of marketing, learn the 6 stages of the marketing funnel.

Understanding the customer journey through the marketing funnel is essential if you want to be a great marketer (or if you want to be effective in marketing your own products or services).
